BC NDP failed to build back better

VICTORIA, B.C. – In response to today’s fiscal update Sonia Furstenau, leader of the BC Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley has issued the following statement:

“This update shows us that the BC NDP government has had the means to meet the needs of British Columbians, but they have been failing on all fronts. For those who are struggling to pay their bills, cover the cost of groceries, find affordable housing, and access reliable healthcare, this budget surplus is an indication that the BC NDP government could have been doing more.

Furstenau: Housing legislation does not guarantee affordability

VICTORIA, B.C. – The B.C. Green Caucus applaud the B.C. Federation of Labour’s unanimous call on the B.C. NDP government to disband the RCMP’s Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG), a branch that was created specifically to defend resource extraction projects.

“The B.C. Green Caucus fully supports this call from the B.C. Federation of Labour who represent over 500,000 British Columbians,” said Sonia Furstenau, leader of the BC Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley. “We commend them for using their collective voice to stand up for Indigenous sovereignty and rights.”

Furstenau calls on Eby to lift persons with disabilities out of poverty

VICTORIA B.C. – Today, B.C. Green Party leader Sonia Fursteanu called on Premier Eby to raise the disability allowance to a liveable rate and to establish a clear and transparent strategy for non-market housing.

“This is really about protecting the dignity and human rights of some of our most marginalized citizens,” Furstenau said. “The housing and affordability crises have had a disproportionate impact on persons with disabilities. By some estimates, persons with disabilities experience poverty at twice the rate of persons without disabilities.

B.C. Greens anticipate productive and collaborative approach from Premier Eby
