Before David Eby was sworn in as premier, he acknowledged that fossil fuel expansion does not equate with BC's climate goals. About five months later, he reneged on his word and approved a new fracked gas project: Cedar LNG.
On the very same day, Eby also unveiled a new cap on oil and gas emissions and a requirement for new LNG facilities to be "net-zero" by 2030.
Greenlighting a new LNG project on the same day you announce to reduce climate pollution from new LNG facilities makes zero sense.
Fossil fuels like LNG have no place within the budget of a province that is taking the climate crisis seriously. It's time to ditch LNG investments and fund the transition to clean energy.
Stand with us by adding your name to the BC Greens petition and call on government to:
- Cancel Cedar LNG, following through on their commitment of no new fossil fuel infrastructure
- Recognize that the BC NDP is long overdue on its promise of stopping fracked gas projects
- Invest in the transition to clean energy
