Government’s fossil fuel subsidies compromise CleanBC plan

VICTORIA, BC - Today, the B.C. NDP announced the Clean BC Roadmap to 2030, the province’s plan to meet the legislated 2030 emissions target.

“The NDP government’s commitment to fossil fuel subsidies are undermining B.C.’s ability to achieve this plan and be a climate leader,” said B.C. Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau, MLA for Cowichan Valley. 

BC NDP votes to let oil and gas producers off hook for site cleanup

VICTORIA, B.C. – Today, all BC NDP MLAs present voted in favour of exempting oil and gas permit holders from the requirement to clean up dormant well sites on time. The government caucus voted against removing Clause 32 of Bill 21, Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act (No. 2), that made changes to the Oil and Gas Activities Act.

BC NDP continues to lack leadership on old-growth protection

VICTORIA, B.C. – B.C. Green Party leader MLA Sonia Furstenau for Cowichan Valley tabled a Stand.Earth petition with the signatures of 52,204 British Columbians calling for the government to keep its promises to implement deferrals on old-growth logging. This comes as the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development failed to announce promised deferrals this summer. 

Injunction extension rejected at Fairy Creek

VICTORIA, B.C. - The B.C. Green Caucus has issued the following statement in response to Justice Thompson’s ruling against extending the injunction at Fairy Creek:

“With over 1,000 arrests, Fairy Creek is the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history, and I am relieved to see the court reject the request to extend the injunction,” said B.C. Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau, MLA for Cowichan Valley.
