Furstenau responds to report on prolific offenders

VICTORIA, B.C. – Today, the BC NDP released the executive summary of government’s review on prolific offenders. Sonia Furstenau, leader of the BC Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley has issued the following statement:

“We need to make communities safe for everyone. If we want to see less crime in the months, years, and decades to come, we must bolster affordable housing, accessible treatment for mental health and substance use disorders, safe supply, food security, and public health measures, and we must address the underlying issues of poverty and systemic racism.

VICTORIA, B.C. – Today, the Minister of Health, Provincial Health Officer, and executive lead for BC's COVID-19 immunization plan announced plans for the fall booster program. Sonia Furstenau, leader of the BC Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley, has issued the following statement:

“The government has a responsibility to inform, educate and support the public. The BC NDP has failed in its responsibility by sending mixed messages about the risks and impacts of COVID-19, telling the public that COVID-19 is a ‘mild disease’ and that ‘we are emerging from the pandemic.’

Furstenau: Back to school safety measures

VICTORIA, B.C. – In response to the updated guidance on aerosol transmission of COVID-19 in health-care settings from the BC Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), Sonia Furstenau, leader of the B.C. Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley, has issued the following statement: 

“The role of the provincial government and public health is to reduce illness and protect people’s wellbeing. On August 29th, the PHSA published updated guidance for health-care providers that emphasizes risk from aerosol transmission of COVID-19. This is a significant and overdue update to their clinical guidance. The BCNDP government must immediately apply these guidelines in schools, universities, and public settings to mitigate unnecessary illness from COVID-19.
