[MEDIA RELEASE] Andrew Weaver Presents a Hopeful Vision for British Columbia

February 16, 2015
For immediate release

VICTORIA BC – Today, Andrew Weaver, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head and Deputy Leader of the B.C. Green Party, offered a new vision for British Columbia as he gave his response to the Throne Speech.

Presenting a Hopeful Vision for British Columbia

Today in the legislature I offered a new vision for British Columbia in my response to the Speech from the Throne.

It is clear from the Throne Speech and the NDP’s amendment, that we are lacking leadership and vision in the legislature. We have a government completely out of ideas and an Official Opposition that is more focused on pointing out the government’s failures than offering viable solutions.

B.C. Greens support democratic reform

Rep-the-Vote-2012-ballot-box-11-3-12.jpgThe Legislature was put on notice that the B.C. NDP will introduce private member’s legislation on democratic reform to move our electoral system from its current first-past-the-post to a form of proportional representation. The B.C. Green Party welcomes this effort by our colleagues in the Opposition.

Amending and Subamending the Throne Speech

Over the course of the last two days, MLAs have been debating the Speech from the Throne. As I noted on Tuesday after the 4th session of the 40th parliament of the Province of British Columbia was opened, I am of the view that despite mounting challenges facing families in British Columbia, the Throne Speech advanced no new ideas about how to grow the economy or help those who are most in need. I will be offering my response in the Legislature on Monday.

[MEDIA RELEASE] Despite available solutions, government offers no clear direction

VICTORIA BC – Today’s 2015 Speech from the Throne reveals a government short of ideas and content to coast while British Columbians continue to struggle with issues we can begin solving today, say Adam Olsen, Interim Leader of the B.C. Green Party, and Andrew Weaver, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head and Deputy Leader of the B.C. Green Party.
