VICTORIA BC – Today, Andrew Weaver, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head and Deputy Leader of the B.C. Green Party, offered a new vision for British Columbia as he gave his response to the Throne Speech.
“It is clear from the Throne Speech and the NDP’s amendment, that we are lacking leadership and vision in the legislature,” says Andrew Weaver. “We have a government completely out of ideas and an Official Opposition that is more focused on pointing out the government’s failures than offering viable solutions. We need a new vision for B.C. and we get there by offering realistic ideas.”
In his speech, Weaver laid out his vision for a diversified, sustainable, 21st century economy, in contrast to the Liberal government’s preoccupation with the elusive LNG industry. In offering his vision, Weaver highlighted the importance of prioritizing affordability, health care, education and environmental regulation.
Weaver presented evidence-based options to improve MSP, advance clean tech, bolster environmental regulation, and help B.C. teachers. He offered his ideas as a first step towards solving many of the province’s growing challenges.
“It is disrespectful to present British Columbians with a Throne Speech completely void of ideas when so many people are struggling to get by and when so many solutions exist. At the same time, opposition has to be more than standing on the sidelines and lobbing dirt at the government. I hope the ideas I put forward can help move us towards real solutions that can help those who are struggling."
