It used to be much easier in the hyper-partisan arena of British Columbia politics. With just two parties in the legislature representing the “left” and “right”, decisions were black and white. With the emergence of the Greens, politics in B.C. is not so easy any more.

Today I mailed out 84 copies of a book I received from the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). Each MLA in the BC Legislature will receive their personal copy today. The book is written as a graphic novel with its content grounded in a detailed report published by the WBGU in 2011 entitled: World in Transition – A Social Contract for Sustainability.

VICTORIA B.C. – The B.C. Green Party applauds Adam Olsen’s oral testimony yesterday before the National Energy Board’s (NEB) hearings on the expansion of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline. Olsen, who is currently serving as the Interim Leader of the B.C. Green Party, testified before the panel in his capacity as a member of the Tsartlip First Nation in the W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) territory.

Both the NDP and the Liberals voted to move Bill 6 – the Liquefied Natural Gas Income Tax Act to committee stage. In doing so, they voted for what I believe is ultimately a Generational Sell-out – one which will cost us the opportunity to forge a new path to develop a 21st century economy for British Columbia.

I stood alone and voted against this bill because it is fundamentally irresponsible.

After nine days of debate, Bill 2 – The Greenhouse Gas Industrial Reporting and Control Act, finally passed committee stage and the Bill will receive Royal Assent shortly. As I mentioned earlier, Bill 2 will lock us into a path of increasing greenhouse gas emissions, while foregoing the development of a truly diversified and sustainable 21st century economy.
