B.C. Greens call for psychologists to have access to MSP billing; Expansion of affordable mental health care

VICTORIA, B.C. - With mental health in decline during the COVID-19 pandemic, the B.C. Green Caucus is proposing a 12-month pilot project that would allow psychologists to become eligible providers of mental health services through government funded billing. This would help expand the access and affordability of mental health services and ensure all British Columbians can access the health care they require.

Stronger definition and First Nations consultation needed for Bill 17

VICTORIA, B.C. – The BC Green Caucus was looking for more First Nations engagement and a strong definition for “clean energy” in order to pass all of the amendments contained in Bill 17, Clean Energy Amendment Act. 

BC Greens: Pause of Bill 22 the right decision

VICTORIA, B.C. – Minister Darcy has announced a pause to the Mental Health Amendment Act, 2020 (Bill 22). The B.C. Green Caucus believes this pause is in the best interest of the policy and has issued the following statement:

“After a month of intensive work on Bill 22 with stakeholders and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, the B.C. Green Caucus is reassured to see a pause in the legislative process that will allow for more fulsome consultation with the people who will be disproportionately impacted by this law,” said Adam Olsen, B.C. Green Party interim leader and MLA for Saanich North and the Islands.

Appointment of new innovation commissioner supports economic recovery in B.C.

VICTORIA, B.C. – Today government announced the appointment of Dr. Gerri Sinclair as B.C.’s new innovation commissioner. The expert advice and recommendations from the innovation commissioner will contribute to the growth of B.C.’s technology sector and help us harness innovation across our economy during a critical time for B.C.

Olsen: LGBTQ2+ rights must be upheld by all parties

VICTORIA B.C. – Adam Olsen, interim leader of the B.C. Green Party, released the following statement regarding the importance of upholding LGBTQ2+ human rights:

“In the previous week, it has come to light that members of the B.C. Liberal Party have advertised in a magazine that they know promotes conversion therapy and harmful anti-LGBTQ2+ beliefs. Conversion therapy is an abusive practice, often perpetrated on minors.
