Furstenau: Record-setting deaths from toxic drugs need urgent action

VICTORIA, B.C. – Today’s BC Coroners Service report revealed that in February 2022, 174 people in B.C. died from suspected illicit drug poisoning. Sonia Furstenau, Leader of the B.C. Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley, has issued the following statement: 

"Each month, we see the relentless toll of the poisoned illicit drug supply. Over six people died a day in February 2022 - a number that remains unchanged from February 2021.

Furstenau calls for major overhaul of family care system in B.C.

VICTORIA, B.C. – The B.C. Green Caucus is calling for the BC NDP to immediately act on the family doctor crisis in British Columbia. Between 750,000 to 900,000 British Columbians are without a family doctor and the shortage is predicted to only grow. The government needs to urgently improve their outdated payment model and remove administrative barriers to keep family doctors in their communities.
