VICTORIA B.C. - The spill of bunker fuel oil in English Bay, Vancouver is a wake up call exposing a lack of ‘world class’ oil spill response on the West Coast. Media reports on the communications and response are deeply troubling considering the plans to expand tanker and freighter traffic in Vancouver Harbour and throughout B.C. coastal waters.

The global water cycle sustains natural ecosystems, urban centres, world health, human populations, industry, energy, equality and food production. In British Columbia, the B.C. Green Party is particularly aware of our water as not only a valuable, life-sustaining resource, but also as a key economic driver in energy, international trade and agriculture.

One of the six core principles of the B.C. Green Party is respect for diversity. We continue to reach out to individuals, groups and other organizations to advance the goals of equity, equality and social justice so that racism and other forms of discrimination can be eliminated from all levels of society.
