B.C. Greens call for regulation of ship breaking industry

VICTORIA, B.C. - The B.C. Green Caucus is calling on the BC NDP to regulate the ship breaking industry.

“Ship breaking involves dismantling and recycling ships. It is one of the most hazardous and environmentally damaging industries on the planet,” said Sonia Furstenau, Leader of the B.C. Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley.

Gandhi statement on removal of mask mandate in healthcare settings

VANCOUVER B.C. – B.C. Green deputy leader Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi released the following statement in response to today’s respiratory illness season update and the removal of the mandatory mask mandate in hospitals and healthcare settings:

“Once again, today the B.C. Ministry of Health and B.C. Public Health failed to acknowledge the detrimental, ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In British Columbia, we have removed all public health protective measures, restricted broad access to further vaccinations, and limited the use of available medications to treat active infections. Today, the one remaining public health order still in place, mandatory universal masking in healthcare settings, intended to protect the most vulnerable in our society, was also removed.

Camille Currie nominated as candidate for Langford-Juan de Fuca by-election

VICTORIA B.C. – B.C. Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau announced Camille Currie as the party’s candidate for Langford-Juan de Fuca at a press conference on Thursday morning. Currie is the founder and President of Canada Pacific Health Care Matters Society and a Langford small business owner. In January 2023, Doctors of B.C. presented Currie with the award for Excellence in Health Promotion by an individual for her work on healthcare.

“Camille Currie is a provincially-recognized leader and advocate for our public healthcare system, and I am so excited to welcome her to the B.C. Green Party as our candidate for the Langford-Juan de Fuca by-election,” said Furstenau.

Jeremy Valeriote announced as candidate for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky

WEST VANCOUVER B.C. – B.C. Green leader Sonia Furstenau announced today that the party has nominated Jeremy Valeriote as its candidate in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky for the next general election.

B.C. Greens call for regulation of private treatment centres

VICTORIA, B.C. - Adam Olsen, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands, is calling on the BC NDP to begin the process of regulating private mental health and addictions treatment facilities.

“Public and private mental health and addictions facilities are failing thousands of British Columbians. It is our responsibility to ensure that these facilities are not causing more harm than good. We are trying to address a mental health crisis and the government needs to reform mental healthcare in this province. Properly regulating private treatment centres is one part of that.
