I hope to help guide the F.V. Regional Committee towards fully staffed, fully financed and fully functioning Constituency Associations in all 9 of our electoral districts so that we are fully prepared and capable of winning the 2017 election.

I am a (relatively) long time member and supporter of the Green Party of BC (12 of my 31 years), and I am seeking this Regional Committee position because I want to offer my organizational skills and exuberance for political engagement to help grow the local grassroots of the Party while also sustaining a cohesive, effective and credible Green political structure ready to activate new volunteers and recruit members. I believe the Green movement in our province and our country, based on these 10 core principles, is a positive force for authentic change and increased social responsibility; its future is brimming with exciting potential.

I have 5 years of management experience in a local contracting business with approx. 15 employees where I have gained the administrative skills and capabilties to function as an internal HR and payroll contact, as well as the contact for clients and sales. Maintaining accurate records and implementing effective membership drives are essential tools for our Party to grow, and I would cooperate fluidly with the Membership Committee and others of experience to ensure that the CA’s of the Fraser Valley are fully equiped with the tools and support the Regional Committee is intended to provide. Simply put, I want to help network and get people excited to join this progressive movement that is expressed in the GPBC, to do my part in the orchestration of a brighter and better future for the common good. I look forward to the adventure this experience would surely be.

I have always taken a keen interest in politics but have never been involved in a political party. I joined the Green Party because I am deeply concerned about Climate Change and the Green Party is the only party that is treating the issue seriously. I am concerned about the legacy we are leaving for our children and grandchildren, not only on environmental matters but also the growing liability on our government programs as baby boomers retire. The Green Party takes a long term view on these issues and I believe that with my background I can offer ideas that address these issues while still maintaining a viable economy.

I completed a degree in economics at Simon Fraser University in 1975 and retired in 2004 after working at the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 30 years. In my early years at DFO I worked as an economist in Vancouver. I carried out the analysis of the recreational and environmental benefits in support of the submission the department was making on the Salmon Enhancement Program, which was approved in the late 70’s. I then got increasingly involved in management and policy development, first in the recreational fishery, and then in habitat management. I moved to the Fraser River Division as planning coordinator. I also took on the role there of management co-ordinator of recreational and Indian subsistence fisheries. The last third of my career I worked on negotiating treaties with First Nations. When I retired, I was the Senior Fisheries Negotiator, responsible for all fisheries negotiations in B.C. and Yukon. I believe with my background I can make a significant contribution as Policy Chair for the Fraser Valley Regional committee.
