NEW WESTMINSTER B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for New Westminster, Jonina Campbell. Campbell, who is a trustee on the New Westminster School Board, will step down from her role as chairperson at a board meeting this evening.
Members of the media are invited to attend Campbell’s official campaign launch:
WHEN: Wednesday November 2, 4:00 - 5:30pm (speeches at 4:30pm)
WHERE: El Santo, 680 Columbia St, New Westminster
In attendance: Jonina Campbell, leader Andrew Weaver
“As a parent and educator I am deeply concerned about the world our children and their children will inherit if we don’t act now,” Campbell said. “There is an urgency for B.C. to be a leader in not only the environment, but in education and health as well. The tragic and sudden death of my brother Josh, who struggled with alcoholism, earlier this year had a tremendous impact on me. The night after his funeral I pledged to my family that I would rise up. I pledged that I would change things so that others would have the supports needed to recover and be well. It was too late to save my brother, but I now feel the responsibility and the urgency to help others.”
“I am deeply grateful to Jonina for her commitment to New Westminster and British Columbia,” added Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party and MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head. “Jonina has come face-to-face with the challenges and failures of our educational and healthcare systems. She embodies the courage and conviction needed in our MLAs to take on the systems that are broken and not working for ordinary British Columbians. I am thrilled to welcome her to the 2017 B.C. Green team.”
