Gandhi responds to Health Ministry’s spring COVID vaccination program

March 10, 2023

VANCOUVER B.C. – B.C. Green deputy leader Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi issued the following statement in response to the B.C. government’s spring COVID vaccination program announcement earlier today:

“Unfortunately, today’s Public Health and Ministry of Health briefing regarding the spring COVID vaccination campaign continued to fail to properly educate British Columbians about the science of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, how the virus spreads, and how best to protect ourselves.

“The concept of ‘hybrid immunity’ forms the basis of this current strategy. Hybrid immunity has largely been debunked. Promoting illness to promote wellness is a flawed way of thinking and demonstrates an ignorance regarding the ramifications of COVID infections. It fails to recognize the vascular nature of this virus and falsely concentrates on the acute respiratory symptoms. COVID is a vascular virus whose receptors exist on every organ in the human body. That means COVID is about so much more than the acute disease. The CDC has acknowledged that there is significant emerging evidence that SARS-CoV-2 can have lasting effects on nearly every organ system in the body for a prolonged time following acute infection. Documented serious sequelae include cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, renal, endocrine, hematological, and gastrointestinal complications.

“For some time now, B.C. Public Health has taken a vaccine-only strategy to fight COVID. Not only was that poor strategy weakened today, by restricting booster doses, but there continues to be a failure to emphasize many other extremely important public health protective measures. The truth of the matter is that, as of today, COVID is not a vaccine-preventable disease. The vaccines do mitigate against severe acute disease, which is important, but they do not prevent infection and are not foolproof against subsequent potential complications. We must develop clean air strategies, fundamental to ending the pandemic and being prepared for the next inevitable airborne virus. We must remove the barriers for testing, personal protection, and targeted treatment.

“Proper education, rooted in science, geared to empowering people to make informed decisions, continues to be the approach supported by the B.C. Green Party.”
