VICTORIA, B.C. – As British Columbians struggle to access basic services, the BC NDP government fails to provide clear solutions to address the crisis in our healthcare system.
“British Columbians are facing ongoing, overlapping crises. We have a worsening healthcare system that is seeing doctors leave their patients, healthcare workers quit en masse, and mega corporations fill the gaps with virtual health services and pay-for-service models,” said Sonia Furstenau, Leader of the B.C. Greens and MLA for Cowichan valley.
“The Premier asked the public for a majority government so he could get politics out of the way of action. Two years later, he has not demonstrated the leadership he promised British Columbians.
“Instead of accepting responsibility for this government’s role in the healthcare crisis, the Minister of Health blamed the ongoing pandemic and the toxic drug crisis for staff shortages across the province.
“Emergency departments in Chetwynd, Clearwater and Port McNeill were closed this weekend due to staff shortages. And where emergency departments were open, people could expect five-to-eight-hour waits. Our provincial health care system is showing signs of collapse, and this government's ribbon cutting and gaslighting are not helping.
“British Columbians need to see immediate and tangible solutions from this government.”
