Victoria, B.C. – Members of the B.C. Green Party approved a motion on Saturday at the party’s 2015 Conference and AGM to hold a leadership convention before the conclusion of the party’s next AGM. The party is required to hold an AGM within 15 months of its last AGM. Interim Leader Adam Olsen put forward the motion, which was unanimously accepted by members present.
“The last year has been an unprecedented period of growth and maturation for the B.C. Green Party,” Olsen said. “We’re ready to elect a new permanent Leader, and I couldn’t be more excited for this leadership convention. Under this new Leader, we will give British Columbians a third choice for government in 2017.”
Former Leader Jane Sterk resigned on August 24, 2013. The party’s Provincial Council appointed Olsen as Interim Leader the following day with the mandate to build the party in preparation for the election of a new permanent Leader. Olsen will continue as Interim Leader until the conclusion of the leadership contest, expected to occur within the first half of 2016.
