Stephanie Hendy, BC Green candidate for Kelowna-MissionStephanie was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, and moved to the Okanagan in July 2021 to better support her active lifestyle. In doing so, Stephanie learned how vastly different community resources are in smaller communities. The gaps in access to care, recreation, and vitality are bigger than they are in major metropolitan centres despite the improved access to outdoor recreation. Stephanie wants to help close those gaps.

Stephanie grew up in a low-moderate income household, with one parent with serious physical progressive disabilities, and also lives with type 1 diabetes herself. Her lived experience provides different insights into the lives and needs of those with disabilities than many people sitting in the legislature today may have.

Stephanie's draw to politics came in 2015, when she started working in diabetes advocacy to remove the age restriction from government funded insulin pumps, and was successful in her endeavour in 2018. Further advocacy work also helped to make BC one of the first provinces in Canada to allow a continuous glucose monitoring system to be covered under BC Pharmacare. To be able to make a positive impact on so many people's lives gave Stephanie the ambition to help others improve their access to life-saving care.

Stephanie has always politically aligned with the BC Greens. She truly believes that all citizens should have a right to vitality; through environmental stewardship, building livable communities, removing barriers to care, and by ensuring our province is here for generations to come.
