BC Greens will not run in Westside-Kelowna by-election
Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Victoria – The Green Party of BC will not run a candidate against Premier Christy Clark in the by-election to be called in the riding of Westside-Kelowna, where MLA Ben Stewart has announced he will step aside to allow Premier Clark to run.
“The BC Liberals won the May 14th election decisively and the riding of Westside-Kelowna by a wide margin,” says Jane Sterk, leader of the BC Green Party. “The voters have indicated in both instances that they want a Liberal government. It is clear that the premier deserves to be in the legislature and we are following the tradition of respecting the wishes of the voters in this regard. We wish the premier success in the by-election and in the upcoming session of the legislature.”
Dr. Andrew Weaver, the first elected Green Party of BC MLA will be sworn in tomorrow, Thursday, June 6. As a Green MLA for the riding of Oak Bay - Gordon Head he will continue to demonstrate a new style of politics that engages voters on the issues that matter to them.
