Weaver welcomes news of over 3,000 new donors to the B.C. Green Party since banning corporate and union donations

April 24, 2017

VICTORIA B.C. – The B.C. Green Party announced today that it has welcomed over 3,000 new individual donors since banning corporate and union donations in September 2016.

“I am so grateful to every single individual who has stepped forward to support us since we banned corporate and union donations,” said Andrew Weaver, the leader of the B.C. Green Party.

“For four years I sat in the legislature and watched the B.C. Liberals and the B.C. NDP make nonsensical decisions due to the unethical influence of corporations and unions. When parties are accepting millions of dollars from special interests, it’s no wonder British Columbians have so little trust in politicians. I’m proud to be heading into the May 9 election as the only major party not accepting corporate and union donations. That is change you can count on.”

A B.C. Green government would ban corporate and union donations, cap individual donations, ban out-of-province donations and introduce reforms to the lobbying industry. The party’s full democratic reform platform can be viewed at http://www.bcgreens.ca/democratic_integrity
