Weaver statement on President Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement

June 01, 2017

VICTORIA B.C. – Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, issued the following statement today in response to the news that U.S. President Trump plans to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement:

“I am very disappointed that President Trump intends to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement,” Weaver said. “However, I am encouraged by the bold actions taken by California, Oregon, Washington and other US states towards meeting their climate targets.

“The signing of Paris was an historic achievement, where the world recognized that we have a responsibility to the next generation to take action on climate change. The results of our recent election in British Columbia signal that the people of B.C. are ready to be leaders on this issue again.

“We have an incredible opportunity to demonstrate that climate action is an economic opportunity. The B.C. Green Caucus will work hard to ensure that B.C. meets our climate targets while capitalizing on the vast opportunities that come along with transitioning to the low-carbon economy. I look forward to collaborating with both parties to build a thriving clean economy in British Columbia that will ensure a high quality of life for generations to come.”
