The BC Green Party is seeking a creative, energetic and motivated graphic artist / designer who is passionate about supporting the development of highly effective communications strategies. With direction from the Director of Communications, the Visual Communications Designer will work with our staff team to create engaging and intuitive graphics / visual designs as part of robust communication plans and strategies.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic and hard-working team that is dedicated to bringing positive change to British Columbia. This person will be passionate about communications, attentive to detail, and a skilled artist and team player. She or he will have a vision for telling compelling stories across various mediums, campaigns and topics. The Visual Communications Designer will be prepared to work flexible hours in a highly collaborative and demanding setting.

Responsibilities

  • Write and develop creative/artwork to achieve strategic communication goals

    • Print materials may include flyers, brochures, signs and documents

    • Digital materials may include social media artwork and memes, infographics, website artwork

  • Support the Communications Director in crafting and refining communications strategies and messaging

  • Arrange printing and delivery of print materials

  • Provide support for staff and volunteers in complying with party graphic standards and style guides

  • Work with the Technical Services Coordinator and Director of Communications to design and implement new website features and digital interfaces

  • Manage the party’s photo and video library

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the BC Green Party’s values and brand

  • Familiarity with and interest in the BC political landscape and current affairs

  • A desire to use art and design for positive change

  • Understanding of organizational branding and brand development

  • A creative and artistic mind that can create inspiring visual materials that meet strategic and practical communication goals

  • Demonstrated ability to advance a strategic narrative across various forms of digital and print media

  • An independent thinker who can implement her or his own ideas within the scope of a communications plan and clear goals

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat

  • Strong working knowledge of social media networks, especially Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube

  • Proficiency using web applications

  • Excellent people skills, attention to detail and strong work ethic

  • Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple projects in time-sensitive situations

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prepared to do what it takes to get the job done

  • Ability to exercise discretion, ethics and independent judgment in representing the BC Green Party

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Assets

  • Experience on issue-based or political campaigns, crafting persuasive and educational communications

  • Experience managing social media accounts for brands or organizations

  • Experience working in an educational, political, non-profit or advocacy organization

  • Experience with NationBuilder

  • Experience with animation and video editing software

  • Knowledge of HTML, Liquid, CSS and SCSS

  • Professional experience in communications or public relations

Pay is commensurate with experience.
