Trash talk: Getting to zero waste

How close can our society get to zero waste? The problem of waste disposal is a serious concern for any community that aims for true economic and environmental sustainability. Taking to heart the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra, the zero waste movement is has developed clear principles that steer communities away from landfill initiatives to modern solutions for waste management.

This course will include a tour of a local Nanaimo waste management facility.
 
In this course, you will learn about:
  • The Nanaimo experience
  • New types of waste disposal
  • Long-term community planning for waste disposal
  • International best practices and policies
