Green Party leader MLA Sonia Furstenau for Cowichan Valley tabled a Stand.Earth petition with the signatures of 52,204 British Columbians calling for the government to keep its promises to implement deferrals on old-growth logging. This comes as the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development failed to announce promised deferrals this summer.

VICTORIA B.C. – Today in the legislature, B.C. Green Leader Sonia Furstenau introduced a B.C. Green Party petition to protect old-growth forests with 30,151 signatures from British Columbians.
This comes 12 years after then-opposition MLA John Horgan and six other B.C. NDP MLAs introduced petitions to protect old-growth forests and ban raw log exports in 2009. Since 2009, BC NDP MLAs have introduced at least 12 separate old-growth petitions, including twice in 2019 while in government.
