VICTORIA B.C. – Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party and MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head has named Cowichan Valley candidate Sonia Furstenau as one of the party’s two deputy leaders. Furstenau succeeds Saanich North and the Islands candidate Adam Olsen in this role, who Weaver has named Provincial Campaign Chair. Weaver has also appointed Furstenau as Environment Critic and Olsen as Intergovernmental Relations Critic.
“As we prepare for the upcoming election, a growing number of stellar candidates are coming on board to share in the work of offering British Columbians a new, hopeful, evidence-based option for government”, Weaver said. “I am excited to be able to extend new leadership roles to this talented team of candidates. Sonia Furstenau is a principled, effective representative who will now take on a provincial role as Deputy Leader. Adam Olsen and I have worked closely together over the last three years, and it will be important to have his leadership on the campaign team. I am therefore pleased to be able to appoint him as Provincial Campaign Chair.”

Olsen held the position of deputy leader from December 2015 and previously served as the party’s interim leader from August 2013 to December 2015. The party’s second deputy leader is Vancouver tech entrepreneur Matt Toner.
