Having lived in Saanich my entire life, I’ve come to love it here. I cherish the sense of community and stunning natural beauty. But I’m worried about how my generation will be able to afford it here.
When I graduated high school in 2017, I was inspired by the BC Greens gaining the balance of power in the legislature. I saw how politics could be used to make tangible changes in people's lives, and I wanted to help make that change. So, at 18, I decided to run for Saanich Council. On my second run, I was elected as the youngest-ever Saanich Councillor and CRD Director. For the four years after that, I worked tirelessly to make meaningful change for this community. I lead the charge to build more sidewalks so that our kids can get to school safely. I spearheaded efforts to broaden and accelerate the region’s response to climate change so that my generation would have a future to look forward to. I consistently advocated for expanding housing stock because everybody deserves an affordable home.
I’m young, energetic, and passionate, and I’ve shown that I can be effective in government. I’ve delivered change while elected, and I’m ready to take this to the next level. I’m tired of seeing the current provincial government make bold statements about climate action, but then approve new LNG plants and continue to log old-growth forests. I’m concerned about the rising cost of living and the lack of housing here in Saanich. I know that these problems are solvable, but only if we’re brave enough to make significant changes to the systems that have caused them in the first place.
