I am excited to announce and invite you to "A Community Fair Trade Symposium", hosted by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research: Community, Learning and Engagement (CIR:CLE) and KPU with the generous support of the KSA.
This free one-day symposium on October 29th in the Surrey Conference Centre delves into the progressive idea of Fair Trade that spans many different academic disciplines and community interests and is infused with multifarious educational and community-building opportunities; the schedule of this event and variety of expert guest speakers and panelists certainly reflects these qualities. As such, the idea of Fair Trade has many implications for the faculty, staff and student body here at KPU as it does for KPU's catchment communities -- this is a knowledge exchange opportunity not to be missed!
Add your voice to this very important conversation along with leaders in the Fair Trade field and movement, including academic (inter-disciplinary), NGO, business and civic leaders.
Please invite family and friends and spread the word about this rich community-building opportunity but please remember to register and encourage all those you invite to do the same! Space is limited.
Highlights include: Dr. Will Low of Royal Roads University on the ABCs of Fair Trade; Sean McHugh, Executive Director of Canadian Fair Trade Network on the history of the Fair Trade movement; Vancouver City Councillor Andrea Reimer on City of Vancouver Fair Trade designation; Anna Mathewson, Manager, Sustainability for the City of Surrey on Surrey's Sustainability Charter; as well as numerous local Fair Trade vendors on site and a Fair Trade wine and cheese reception to boot! Please find the symposium prospectus and itinerary attached.
