Olsen: Action needed to save Saanich Peninsula Hospital

April 30, 2024

VICTORIA, B.C. - In response to reports of cockroaches at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Adam Olsen, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands has issued the following statement:

“The Saanich Peninsula Hospital is critical healthcare infrastructure on the Saanich Peninsula and each year residents raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Healthcare Foundation to keep our hospital updated.

“The hospital needs major capital upgrades, and the emergency room is now closed overnight indefinitely. We need the Minister of Health Hon. Adrian Dix and Island Health to match the commitment of Saanich Peninsula residents.

”Now we have a story that there are cockroaches in our hospital and it is just further evidence of the need for a much greater investment by the ministry and health authority. The population in Central Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney, and the Outer Gulf Islands rely heavily on our hospital, and I am certain we will defend it.

“We have done it before, and we will do it again. With a $36 billion dollar healthcare budget it is time for the minister and health authority to invest in the capital and operational needs of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital.”
