B.C. Greens statements on Pink Shirt Day

VICTORIA B.C. –  While many British Columbians enjoy a high standard of living, bullying continues to be present in our schools, workplaces, and homes across the province, and increasingly online. Of the B.C. Greens’ 6 core principles, three - social justice, respect for diversity and non-violence - put the safety, security and dignity of British Columbians at the centre of our policies. Last year the B.C. Greens were proud to support both a bill to include transgender people in our Human Rights Act and an order from the Minister of Education ensuring all school districts in B.C. have clear anti-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation and gender identity.

Education Spokesperson Jonina Campbell on B.C. 2017 Budget

NEW WESTMINSTER B.C. – B.C. Green Party Candidate (New Westminster) and Education Spokesperson, Jonina Campbell, released the following statement in response to the B.C. 2017 Budget:

“I am disappointed in the 2017 budget. I am at a loss by a government who just lost a lengthy court battle to have Minister de Jong declare that education is ‘the single most important service that government operates and funds.’ I am at a loss as to why this province was made to go through a very expensive court battle, only to hear now what needed to have been said years ago. For many of our teachers and parents, Minister de Jong’s declaration has left them shaking their heads.

VICTORIA B.C. – Today Andrew Weaver, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head, re-introduced the Election Amendment Act 1, which seeks to engage youth in politics through lowering the voting age to 16.
