Statement from Andrew Weaver on Mark Neufeld's rally speech
At our rally on April 12, one of our candidates Mark Neufeld made a speech that mimicked Martin Luther King Jr.’s Mountain Top speech. Mark’s speech was completely inappropriate. Every member of this team is expected to approach this campaign and all of their work with the highest possible degree of integrity, sensitivity, self-reflection and personal responsibility. As leader of the B.C. Green Party, it is my responsibility to ensure that all of our candidates hold themselves to this standard. Mark is a passionate teacher, a long-standing advocate for youth and a kind-hearted person. That being said, what he did was wrong. I am glad that Mark has taken responsibility for his mistake and apologized.
