B.C. Greens call for Government support of B.C. Wine industry

VICTORIA, B.C. - Andrew Weaver, Leader of the B.C. Green Party today called for the BC government to take immediate mitigation steps to help provide support for BC wineries.

“B.C.’s wine industry is a provincial treasure that brings significant tourism and economic activity to our province,” Weaver said.

Weaver welcomes move to align Family Day with other jurisdictions

VICTORIA, B.C. - Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, welcomed the announcement that Family Day will be moved to the third Monday in February beginning in 2019. Weaver spearheaded this change, introducing a Private Member’s Bill on this issue in 2017.

“This change honours the spirit of Family Day by putting families first and aligning B.C. with the rest of North America,” said Weaver.

B.C. Greens welcome Pharmacare investment

VICTORIA, B.C. - Sonia Furstenau, B.C. Green Party spokesperson for health, welcomed the government’s announcement that $105 million will be invested in Fair Pharmacare. The investment will eliminate or reduce deductibles for 240,000 B.C. families.

“The costs of prescription drugs prevents too many British Columbians from addressing treatable conditions, saddling them and our healthcare system with the effects of untreated illnesses down the road,” said Furstenau.

Weaver statement on Fair Wages Commission report

VICTORIA, B.C. - Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, issued the following statement in response to the Fair Wages Commission final report.

“We proposed the Fair Wages Commission with the goal of depoliticizing the process of setting minimum wage in B.C,” Weaver said.

Weaver responds to province’s Airbnb deal

VICTORIA, B.C. - Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party, released the following statement in response to the government’s deal with Airbnb.

“While this announcement is a good first step from a tax fairness perspective, it will not change behaviour or free up long-term rental stock that has been taken out of the market due to short-term rental services,” said Weaver.
