July 07, 2017

VICTORIA B.C. – Rita Giesbrecht, B.C. Green Party spokesperson for rural development, will participate in the 12th annual Paddle for the Peace and will be available for media comment. Paddle for the Peace is an annual event that promotes the integrity of the Peace River Valley, which will be flooded if the Site C dam construction goes ahead.

WHEN: Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 9:30am-2:30pm

WHERE: Launch begins at Halfway River Bridge on Highway 29; lunch to follow at Bear Flat

“I commend Rita’s participation in Paddle for the Peace and to helping to draw attention to the important issue of protecting the valley’s integrity. During our recent visit the Peace River Valley, the B.C. Green caucus had the chance to experience it firsthand and gain a greater understanding of how valuable this land is to the people who live there. We look forward to the BCUC review of the Site C dam that is mandated in our Confidence and Supply Agreement with the B.C. NDP so that the people of the Peace can finally have the due diligence on this project that they deserve.”

  • Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party

“I am proud to represent the B.C. Greens at the annual Paddle for the Peace. The people of B.C. deserve to be engaged in decision-making on projects that will have such a massive impact on their homes. The B.C. Greens advocate for a new, bottom-up approach to how First Nations and all British Columbians engaged on resource projects, and I am delighted to be bringing that message to the people of the Peace.”
