Furstenau: New family doctor payment model a much-needed first step
VICTORIA, B.C. – In response to the new longitudinal payment model for family physicians coming into effect, Sonia Furstenau, leader of the B.C. Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley has issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to the family doctors who have long been advocating for changes to their outdated payment model. Family doctors have been forced to prioritize quantity over quality of patient care and run a business in their off time."
Furstenau: Premier Eby can choose to save lives
VICTORIA, B.C - Today, the BC Coroners Service reported that 392 people died from toxic drugs in November and December in B.C., bringing 2022's death toll to 2,272 the second largest number of drug deaths ever recorded in a calendar year. Furstenau calls for a budget that saves lives

Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley, is calling on Premier Eby to ensure his budget funds equitable access to harm reduction, safe supply, and mental health and addictions services across BC.
Charlwood responds to Incomappleux Valley conservancy decision
NELSON B.C. – B.C. Green candidate Nicole Charlwood for Nelson-Creston issued the following statement following the creation of the Incomappleux Valley conservancy:
“I welcome the decision to protect the Incomappleux Valley here in the interior of BC. I want to express my gratitude to the Valhalla Wilderness Society for two decades of advocacy. “I am perplexed, however, why the B.C. NDP government didn’t simply declare this area a Class-A B.C. Park. That would provide the highest protection possible. The government's approach to the Incomappleux Valley conservancy sets a precedent for piecemeal buyouts and reflects the absence of a larger strategy to protect ecologically sensitive areas.
Furstenau appoints Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi as party’s second deputy leader
VANCOUVER B.C. – B.C. Green leader Sonia Furstenau announced today that she has appointed former B.C. Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi as the party’s second deputy leader. Dr. Gandhi joins fellow deputy leader Dr. Lisa Gunderson on the party’s leadership team. Dr. Gunderson is a clinical psychologist and anti-racism/equity consultant, as well as the party’s candidate for Oak Bay-Gordon Head for the next provincial election.
