BC Green Party seeks clarity from the BC Government on what constitutes "First Nations support" of pipelines

Victoria, BC – British Columbia and Alberta co-released a statement on Tuesday announcing “a framework agreement between the two provinces on moving energy resources to new markets.”
The release states,
“Alberta and BC agree that only through intensive environmental review and protection, enhanced marine safeguards and First Nations support, can projects proceed.”
Recent travels builds on BC Greens momentum
For the past week I have been travelling the southern part of the province continuing the work the BC Greens started in the May 2013 election. The momentum is growing and it is incredibly exciting to begin the laying the groundwork for 2017.
Last weekend I visited Trail, Castlegar, Nelson and Creston. Like the Capital Region campaigns, Sjeng Derkx in Nelson-Creston received over 20% of the votes. The BC Greens vote in the 2013 election tripled over 2009. On Saturday evening, the Nelson-Creston Constituency Association hosted their AGM. They packed the house and we shared a wonderful evening of local food and entertainment. I was honoured to provide the closing address and thrilled to see Nelson’s cultural ambassador, actor and comedian, Lucas Myers. Myers channeled his alter-ego “Randy from Creston” to serenade us with his song to all the “environmentalistic” people.
Movember
Late Thursday afternoon I called my friend and colleague Andrew Weaver and threw down a Movember challenge. “I bet you can’t grow a better mustache than me,” I said. There was a little hesitation on the other end of the line but in the spirit of supporting a great cause, Andrew took the challenge.
Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches around the world. Through the power of the moustache, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges (ca.movember.com/about)

Throughout the past week I have been thinking a lot about small and local business and celebrating the contribution they make to our communities.
Wind Power or Site C Dam: What Makes Cents?
Over the next twenty years, BC Hydro has forecasted that our energy needs will increase by about 40% as a consequence of both population and economic growth. To meet this growing electricity demand, BC Hydro has proposed to build the Site C dam on the Peace River near Fort St. John (see Figures 1–3). Here I explore whether or not there are better ways from an economic, social and environmental perspective to meet our future power needs.
