Job opportunity: Executive Director

 

The BC Green Party is on a mission to transform politics in British Columbia, and we are seeking an Executive Director to lead this mission.

Reporting to the Provincial Council through the Chair, the Executive Director leads party operations, establishing a collective vision that is conceived and achieved through the efforts of a diverse team of high-performing leaders, staff, and volunteers. If you are a mobilizer and connector who can unite strategy, policy, governance, and operations, you are in the right place.

 

To be a successful candidate for this role, you must:

  • Hold a relevant post-secondary credential from an accredited college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience
  • Have five or more years experience in project management, campaign experience or communications experience, preferably in a political environment 
  • Have five or more years' of experience communicating with boards and stakeholder groups
  • Experience managing a multi-disciplinary team
  • Resident of BC; or willing to relocate and become a resident of BC

 

  • Eligible to become a member of the BC Greens; or willing to commit to become one

Our preferred candidates will also have experience in:

  • Managing a geographically distributed team 
  • Budget preparation and management
  • Strategic planning and implementation
  • Managing complex projects
  • Public speaking

 

As Executive Director, we expect that you will:

  • Provide definitive and collaborative leadership
  • Become a member of the BC Greens and commit to the BC Greens' six core principles, ethics, and policies
  • Meet competing deadlines with a sense of urgency
  • Define priorities and pay attention to detail
  • Work on and complete multiple projects simultaneously
  • Use your strong emotional intelligence and adapt quickly to change
  • Possess excellent diplomacy and tact
  • Inspire staff and volunteers to achieve a common objective 
  • Ensure performance planning, coaching, and development plans are in place for all employees to maximize their potential.
  • Ensure the employee evaluation process includes performance-based evaluations, merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions are complied with.
  • Work independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team
  • Foster a safe and inclusive work environment where all employees feel comfortable and supported in their personal identities 
  • Think critically and anticipate trends, needs, and expectations
  • Deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Have a working knowledge of the Societies Act, the Election Act, the Personal Information Protection Act and the Employment Standards Act
  • Be able to travel frequently, and work evenings and weekends (Required travel costs are covered by the organization in accordance with travel policy)
