VICTORIA, B.C. – Following a judicial recount of the votes in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, B.C. Green candidate Jeremy Valeriote has offered B.C. Liberal Jordan Sturdy his congratulations for winning a tight race. Valeriote finished with 9,189 votes (37.30%), just 60 votes short of Sturdy’s final results (9,249 votes or 37.54%).
Valeriote was projected to win following the vote count on General Election Day, but fell 41 votes behind after mail-in and absentee ballots were counted on Sat., Nov. 7. A difference of 41 votes is within the legislated threshold of 1/500th for a judicial recount, which was completed today.
"I'd like to offer my congratulations to Jordan Sturdy,” Valeriote said. “I am very grateful to all those who cast a ballot for me and supported my campaign, which experienced unprecedented momentum. I am very much looking forward to continuing to build the Green vote in this riding over the next four years."
“Of course, I am disappointed that Jeremy won’t be joining Adam and me in the legislature,” B.C. Green leader Sonia Furstenau said. “He ran an extraordinary campaign. I am proud of his efforts to share our vision with his community and the work of all his campaign team.”
“I know that Jeremy will continue to work hard in the community and that support for him will keep building. Jeremy nearly won the seat for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky with less than four weeks of campaigning. In the next election, I fully expect to see BC Greens elected in this riding and in many others.”
