We demand a public inquiry

For over a decade, money laundering has wreaked havoc on the affordability, health and safety of our communities, while eroding our confidence in government.

How could billions of dollars be funnelled into casinos, the illegal drug trade and the real estate market without government taking action?

BC deserves answers.

To the Honourable the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, in Legislature Assembled:

The petition of the undersigned, residents of the Province of British Columbia, states that:

Whereas at least $1 billion dollars has been laundered by massive organized crime networks operating in British Columbia for more than a decade;

and Whereas these money laundering activities are linked to the housing crisis and the opioid crisis;

and Whereas individuals, municipalities and organizations across the province are calling for a public inquiry into money laundering;

and Whereas trust in our public institutions and politicians is deteriorating;

Your petitioners respectfully request that the Honourable House initiate an at-arms-length, independent public inquiry into the conditions in BC that allowed the money laundering to occur;

and that this public inquiry examine the relationship between organized crime networks, the real estate market and the opioid crisis;

and that this public inquiry have the power to subpoena witnesses and the power to compel testimony and evidence, including from those at the highest levels;
