Five year anniversary of declaration of the overdose crisis marked by record number of deaths from toxic drug supply

VICTORIA, B.C. – B.C. marks a somber fifth year since the public health emergency was declared in response to rising death rates related to illicit drugs. Sonia Furstenau, Leader of the B.C. Green Party and MLA for Cowichan Valley has issued the following statement: 

Not enough done to address drug toxicity crisis; Immediate long-term plan needed

VICTORIA, B.C. - Last year 1,716 people died of illicit drug overdoses in B.C., ending 2020 as the deadliest year for overdoses in the province. Sonia Furstenau, leader of the B.C. Greens and MLA for Cowichan Valley, says an immediate, evidence based, integrated, and regulated plan is needed.
