Furstenau thanks donors, volunteers for record-breaking first half of 2021

August 04, 2021

VICTORIA B.C. – B.C. Green Leader Sonia Furstenau released the following statement today, thanking volunteers and donors for their work in growing the party over the the first six months of 2021:

"I am very honoured to be the leader of such a supportive and dedicated community. British Columbians are counting on the B.C. Greens to fight for old-growth protection, mental healthcare, climate action, safe supply, and many other issues. We have been able to do this very important work in the legislature and across the province significantly because of our volunteers and donors.

"With so many overlapping crises, these are not easy times for many people. It makes me all the more grateful for the contributions we have received. In the first six months of 2021, we received over $278,000 from British Columbians. We broke non-election-year records for each of February, March, April and May. And this June was our all-time best on record, including election years, receiving more than $115,000. The previous record was $63,000 last year. More than a quarter of our 2021 donors made their first ever donation to the party this year.

"People have stepped up in so many invaluable ways so far this year – not only through their financial support, but on the ground in their communities as well. More than 55% of ridings in B.C. now have a B.C. Green riding association, and the party is approaching 6,000 members. This is by far the most members the party has ever had. It is clear to me that our party provides an invaluable voice for British Columbians.

"This Summer, as Adam and I continue to travel to local communities in B.C., we are hearing stories of innovative responses and solutions to our province’s biggest challenges. I am so inspired by what groups of people committed to a cause can do. We will learn from them, and bring important ideas and goals back to the legislature in the Fall.

"As I reflect on what I am learning and the remarkable growth of the B.C. Green Party this year, I am filled with gratitude and hope for the future we can build together for our province."

Elections B.C. released the 2021 second quarter interim financial reports for political parties yesterday, Aug. 3, 2021.
