April 11, 2018

VICTORIA, B.C. – Sonia Furstenau, B.C. Green Party spokesperson for children and youth, released the following statement regarding B.C. Children and Youth Advocate Bernard Richard stepping down.

“I have greatly appreciated Bernard’s work and his advocacy for children in British Columbia,” said Furstenau.

“He has continued to shine a light on the challenges of failures of the child welfare system. In particular, his advocacy for indigenous communities and for the best interests of infants has been in invaluable contribution to our province. B.C. Bernard has shown through his work he is a true advocate for children and families.

“There remains much work to be done on this file. I look forward to the swift appointment of a new representative so that we can continue to give this vital issue the support and attention it deserves.”
