Furstenau joins Valeriote on Bowen Island to meet with residents

BOWEN ISLAND B.C. – B.C. Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau joined B.C. Green candidate for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, Jeremy Valeriote, at an event on Bowen Island today. The event at Tell Your Friends Cafe was an opportunity for residents to connect with Furstenau and Valeriote and discuss their shared vision for the future of British Columbia.

“It was a pleasure to meet with residents of Bowen Island, and to hear what really matters to them,” said Furstenau. “Like communities around the province, the people of Bowen Island are disappointed with a lack of access to healthcare and affordable housing, and concerned about the growing impacts from climate change, including fire risks and water security. Bowen Islanders are looking for leadership that recognizes the overlapping crises we face in B.C., and focuses on positive solutions that make a difference in people’s lives.”

“The frustrations of residents here are, unfortunately, nothing new,” said Valeriote. “They have a small population relative to the rest of Metro Vancouver, and feel that senior levels of government are preoccupied with policies that favour urban areas. It is clear they neglect the smaller islands and communities in British Columbia. Residents have been ringing alarm bells about constant ferry disruption, rising housing prices, and lack of child care for years, to no avail. There is little old growth left on Bowen Island, and residents are worried that the government is not doing enough to protect the natural environment that they call home.”

“Jeremy Valeriote will be a champion and strong voice for the people of Bowen Island as MLA for West-Vancouver Sea to Sky,” added Furstenau. “His experience as an environmental engineer and his passion for this riding means that he will advocate for what the people here really need. With his focus on building a healthy and sustainable province for his daughters and the generations that follow, Jeremy has the right vision and drive to create meaningful change in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.”
