Furstenau congratulates by-election candidates

LANGFORD B.C. – B.C. Green leader Sonia Furstenau celebrated this evening the party’s candidates, Camille Currie in Langford-Juan de Fuca (LJF) and Wendy Hayko in Vancouver-Mount Pleasant (VMP).

“Like many British Columbians, I have been very impressed by our B.C. Green candidates,” said Furstenau. “Camille and Wendy are strong community advocates who have led inspiring grassroots campaigns. I look forward to continuing to work with them, and I send my congratulations to MLAs-elect Ravi Parmar (LJF) and Joan Phillip (VMP).

“Looking ahead, it is very important for me to emphasize that we as elected officials need to ask ourselves why so few voters cast a ballot. It is our job to engage voters - not just during elections - but every single day of the year. We need to demonstrate how important their participation in our democracy is.”

“I’m so proud of the work we’ve done over the course of this campaign,” said Currie. “It’s been truly inspiring working alongside such passionate volunteers to achieve this result. The people of this community are very important to me. That’s why I am proud to share that I will be seeking the party’s nomination for next year’s general election in the new riding of Langford-Highlands. I will continue to do everything I can to give people the support and opportunities they deserve. I will also continue to serve all British Columbians through my work with B.C. Health Care Matters.”

“I want to thank everyone who supported my campaign and all the volunteers who gave up their time to show Vancouver-Mount Pleasant that B.C. Greens bring solutions to the table,” said Hayko. “This riding faces many challenges, and I know that many who live here share my frustrations with the provincial government for their lack of action. I want to assure constituents that I remain committed to serving our community and working towards a better future for all of us. We must continue to hold our elected officials accountable and demand that they act in the best interests of our province and its residents.”

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the campaign teams and all of the volunteers who went out in the wind and rain to bring our vision to people’s doorsteps, as well as our generous donors who made this work possible” added Furstenau. “Heading into the summer and fall, the B.C. Greens will continue to hold the government’s feet to the fire, while offering a vision for the wellbeing of British Columbians.”
