Food Security Nanaimo Townhall with Chris " Farmer" Brown RSVP now

Join us and Guest Speaker Chris “Farmer” Brown to discuss how we can lead the way to an agricultural model that works for people before profit. Be part of this engaging and important Town Hall forum via Zoom.

British Columbia, Vancouver Island and Nanaimo can do much more to encourage and develop local food production and distribution

Vancouver Island once grew enough food to feed its residents. Increased population with its accompanying loss of farmland, the rise of “big food” farming and distribution, and the COVID-19 shutdown has clearly demonstrated the vulnerabilities in the system. Join us in this vital and timely Town Hall Forum with Vancouver Island agricultural expert and farmer Chris Brown.

Guest Speaker: Chris “Farmer” Brown

Chris, widely known as Farmer Brown, is a local farmer and agriculturalist who has been involved in the agricultural industry for nine years. He is well-versed in issues and concerns surrounding food here in Nanaimo and across the island. He sees viable solutions and potential opportunities for the present and the future. Chris will lead discussions about the current challenges in the farming industry, the opportunities he sees for our community, and what we can do to support and promote sustainability in agriculture for our community and the island.

Zoom Details will be sent out in the autoresponse once your RSVP. Make sure to check all your email folders to make sure that you get the link!

Protecting your health

BC Greens recognize that airborne illnesses and pollutants pose a significant health risk to everyone, especially the young, elderly, and immunocompromised, while caregivers, healthcare professionals, and support staff come into regular contact with vulnerable persons. When choosing venues, BC Greens prioritize outdoor spaces, and indoor spaces with good ventilation. In closed indoor spaces, we encourage attendees to wear well-fitting masks (N95, KN95, or KF94), especially during the respiratory-illness season.

Creating safe spaces

The BC Green Party is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and harassment, where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, can contribute fully and have equal speaking opportunities. To support this commitment, all event attendees will be expected to follow the standards of our Safe Spaces Participant's Guide.
