Field Organizer

The Field Organizer is a member of the BC Green Party’s Field Team. The primary responsibility of this team is working with volunteers, riding associations, members and supporters to identify, persuade, and motivate voters to increase their level of support and engagement with the BC Green Party.

You would achieve purpose & goals through

 

  • Creating the strategic field plan based on data and research and directing its implementation to achieve the organizational goals
  • The plan includes, but is not limited to, budgets, project plans that specify overall timelines and performance metrics
  • Using data and research to identify the appropriate distribution of resources to the Riding Associations and ridings
  • Working cooperatively with Riding Associations, Riding Volunteer Teams to coordinate and execute the field strategy to build effective volunteer teams, achieve fundraising goals, and to educate on political messaging with the purpose of increasing voter engagement
  • Collaborating with the Riding Associations and Riding Volunteer Teams to identify, recruit and train candidates and campaign teams for all provincial ridings
  • Engaging people from equity-seeking groups to help build equity and diversity within the Riding Associations, Riding Volunteer Teams and provincial teams
  • Overseeing the application of GVote and/or other voter engagement programs and tools  to support the Riding Associations and volunteers organizing efforts and voter engagement
  • Establish and maintain a strong, professional culture within the field program focused on accountability, specific goals, innovation, and sense of purpose — without compromising autonomy or innovation
  • Train and develop riding association executives and volunteers, campaign managers, financial agents, and candidates, and ensure they have the tools necessary to design and have meaningful participation in field operations
  • Provide high-level strategic advice to executive leadership on program development, including long-term strategy and growth, targeting, electoral, legislative and ballot initiative opportunities
  • Work with Riding Associations and Riding Volunteer Teams to develop and implement Candidate Recruitment plans, Candidate and Campaign Team development programs, and General Election Readiness on an ongoing basis.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Campaign Leadership Team and staff members of the Field Team to ensure the Field Team is prepared to support and guide local campaign teams in a General Election.  
  • Hiring, leading and mentoring an outcome focused team
  • Ensure the field program’s compliance with statutory requirements
  • Monitor media scan for emerging issues that could affect field operations

Required skills, knowledge and abilities

Personal Narrative and Values 

  • Passion, personal alignment and commitment to the BCGP values, mission and vision 
  • The ability to use your story as a motivational and organizing tool, and the ability to encourage others to use their story in a similar way. 

Communication & training

  • Professionally and clearly presenting ideas and accurate information in fluent English, both verbal and written 
  • Ability to communicate with groups at different levels in the organization
  • Strong presentation and training skills, including experience delivering to audiences of all sizes in-person and on-line
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise initiative, and discretionary judgment, and act with tact and diplomacy.
  • Can talk about personal privilege and/or oppression, the role it plays in both our organization and in policy and platform, and actions taken to create a more equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace or volunteer team
  • Additional language skills are an asset 

Leadership & collaboration 

  • Skilled at building teams by bringing people together around a shared outcome
  • Developing, supporting or leading collaborative projects, initiatives or programs
  • Ability to work well with others and adds value to shared projects
  • Drafting concise and persuasive written materials such as planning documents, project documents, presentations, speaking notes and reports
  • Supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring a diverse team of volunteers or staff   
  • Ability to have a difficult conversation with a volunteer, direct report, coworker or supervisor in a manner that demonstrates empathy, respect and finding solutions.
  • Skilled in working with supervised staff members  to maximize their engagement, satisfaction, and performance in their role.

Volunteer Management

  • Strong knowledge of best practices in volunteer management, including the factors that influence recruitment, selection, orientation and retention

Organization & planning

  • Demonstrating initiative to independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Strong organizational, project and project management skills, ability to work on a wide range of issues simultaneously 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of desired outcomes of an organization, activities that will lead to those outcomes, and the skills, competencies and resources needed to create those outcomes.

Data Management

  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and present information in a meaningful manner.
  • Previous experience with collecting, managing and analyzing demographic data using a CRM is an asset

Campaign Knowledge

  • Know the types of goals a campaign can set for an election at different levels of initial and historical capacity.
  • Know the basic activities that each campaign in a general or by-election must complete in order to achieve their goals.
  • Have a high level of expertise in leading canvass, mainstreeting and phone banking training in a way that emphasizes relationship building and the safety of volunteers.

As well as

  • At least two years as a Full Time Organizer with a Political Party
  • At least one general provincial or federal election as a Field Organizer
  • At least one year of supervising at least one full-time staff member

Location

You must be based in Greater Victoria and be willing to travel within the region and occasionally beyond. Currently, our team works remotely from their home offices. This is a 35-hour-per-week full-time role and includes evening and weekend hours.

Salary
