We are excited to have this brand new position for an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Policy Specialist. In this role, you will mobilize our staff, volunteers, supporters and diverse communities to support our equity, diversity and inclusion goals and evolve our party policy to achieve the BC Green Party’s objectives.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (approximately 50 - 60% of the position)

In collaboration with the BC Green Party team, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Policy Specialist will examine and analyze the BC Green Party’s existing structures, systems and practices to offer advice and guidance regarding diversity awareness and inclusion in every aspect of the party’s function.

Policy and Platform Development (approximately 40 - 50% of the position)

Working alongside the Policy Committee Chair, you will establish collaborative structures for policy development while contributing your party policy ideas and approaches. Additionally, you will ensure regular communication and consultation with supporters, volunteers, candidates, stakeholders, and experts.

What's the job?

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (approximately 50 - 60% of the position)

In collaboration with the BC Green Party team, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Policy Specialist will examine and analyze the BC Green Party’s existing structures, systems and practices to offer advice and guidance regarding diversity awareness and inclusion in every aspect of the party’s function.

  • Providing guidance and advice in implementing the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy in collaboration with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
  • Working with the Executive Director to develop a framework for the Party to establish relationships with stakeholders representing the diversity of our province.
  • Hosting events and leading education sessions on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for supporters, volunteers, staff and local teams.
  • Working at a strategic level to promote Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and address any institutional barriers.

Policy and Platform Development (approximately 40 - 50% of the position)

Working alongside the Policy Committee Chair, you will establish collaborative structures for policy development while contributing your party policy ideas and approaches. Additionally, you will ensure regular communication and consultation with supporters, volunteers, candidates, stakeholders, and experts.

  • Creating an engaging, thought-provoking and safe policy process and culture that cultivates bold, visionary, innovative and leading ideas.
  • Working in conjunction with the Policy Committee to review existing policy and create new party policies, and to provide opportunities for members to develop knowledge of party policy.
  • Engaging in policy research that integrates caucus and legislative assembly positions.
  • Working with staff to strategically position our policy in meeting our strategic objectives.
  • Contributing to the development of the party platform* for provincial elections and by-elections.

What do you bring to the team?

You have big ideas that you believe will help improve the lives of British Columbians, and you want the opportunity to share them. You have a value alignment with the BC Greens Party’s evidence-based approach to the overlapping crises (i.e. housing, opioid and climate) our province is currently facing.

  • Ideally, you have a minimum of three years’ work experience that demonstrates experience in developing and implementing successful Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion organizational change strategies and reflects the development of policy, such as research, analysis and proposing.
  • Supplementing your experience is either a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a related field of study, such as Indigenous Studies, Social Justice, Diversity and Inclusion, Public Policy, Political Science, Community Planning or equivalent field;
  • Or you have a combination of equivalent experience you can bring to this position.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a collaborative policy development process.  
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • You can clearly present ideas and training to audiences of all sizes in-person and online.
  • You have demonstrated experience developing, supporting and/or leading collaborative projects, initiatives or programs with volunteers and colleagues.
  • You possess a high level of capability in critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills.

Location?

Currently, our team is working remotely from our home offices. We provide a laptop, a monitor, and a mouse and contribute to your internet costs. This position may eventually move to a hybrid remote and in-person work model. You can either be based in the Greater Victoria region or Metro Vancouver and must be able to commute to Victoria for in-person meetings once per quarter.
