BC already has a world-class hydroelectric generating system that provides residents with cheap, reliable electricity. This strong base means that BC is ideally positioned to embrace renewable (intermittent) energy sources like utility-scale wind and solar because the hydraulic reservoirs serve the same role as a battery when the sky is dark and the air is calm. Alberta has already taken the lead here by putting out an RFI about the viability of building enough solar power to account for all government buildings. In addition, BC has extensive geothermal resources that have largely gone undeveloped due to lack of funding for exploration. BC has the most plentiful geothermal resources in Canada and it's time for us to embrace that in a big way.
