BURNABY B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for Burnaby North, Dr. Peter Hallschmid. Hallschmid is a professional engineer, entrepreneur, and academic. Currently the CEO of a high-tech start-up based in Vancouver, he also teaches at Simon Fraser University.
“Burnaby is ground-zero for the Kinder Morgan expansion and I believe B.C. Green representation is needed to send an unequivocal message to Victoria that Burnaby no longer wants its backyard exploited,” says Hallschmid. “I’m running for the B.C. Green Party because of their stance against corporate and union donations and its support for sustainable fiscal, social, and environmental policy. It would be an honour to serve as the MLA for Burnaby North. As the MLA, I would demand a greater voice for Burnaby North that better reflects the environmental burden it bears, I would fight for improved accessibility to post-secondary education, and increased support for B.C.’s technology industry.”
“We are thrilled to have such a strong candidate stepping forward to represent Burnaby North,” added Andrew Weaver, leader of the B.C. Green Party. “Dr. Hallschmid’s extensive experience will bring a distinguished voice for developing technology, engineering and post-secondary education to the Legislature. High tech industries and post-secondary education are pivotal to building a sustainable 21st century economy.”
