KAMLOOPS B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for Kamloops-South Thompson, Donovan Cavers. Cavers is currently serving his second term as a City of Kamloops councillor.
"I am happy to represent the B.C. Green Party. Our province desperately needs a balanced approach to governance. British Columbians are tired of the status quo”, Cavers said. “As a city councillor, and now a B.C. Green candidate, I remain very concerned about KGHM’s proposed open-pit mine, adjacent to Kamloops. The B.C. Green Party and I support responsible resource development. Mining has been, and continues to be, an extremely vital part of our region’s and our province’s economy. As I have been saying for the last five years, an open-pit mine less than 3 kilometres from one of our schools (Pacific Way Elementary) is not responsible resource development. The health, quality of life and property investments of nearby residents remain under threat by the KGHM proposal.
“Our current MLA continues to do little to represent very valid local concerns. The B.C. Liberals have accepted over $55,000 in corporate donations from KGHM since 2013, which reveals a serious conflict of interest. I want to be part of a government focused on building a bright future for all British Columbians by embracing a 21st century economy based on innovation and efficiency. As MLA, I will be a strong advocate for all communities throughout the Kamloops and South Thompson region."
