VANCOUVER B.C. – The B.C. Green Party is pleased to announce the nomination of its candidate for Vancouver-Hastings, David H.T. Wong. David was born and raised in East Vancouver. His family has roots in Vancouver going back over 130 years.
An accomplished architect and best selling author, the past decades have seen David lead the effort to protect the city’s urban forest and heritage building conservation and advocate for affordable housing. His support for First Peoples has earned the respect of many First Nations communities across North America, with several adopting him into their families and clans. David was inducted as an Honorary Witness by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada in 2013.
“I’m a proud East Vancouverite where I am currently raising my family. I love my community passionately. Generations of my family have stood up to help build a better city, province and nation,” said Wong. “My colourful East Van upbringing shaped the individual I am today – a no-nonsense advocate for local issues that will lead to a better tomorrow for future generations.
“I will work tirelessly to nurture and support our Mom and Pop businesses, our self- and underemployed, our struggling young families and our respected elders and veterans. These folks have been ignored and forgotten by the B.C. Liberals and the B.C. NDP, who waste time engaging in unproductive, tasteless mudslinging. Almost half of our neighbours did not vote. I want to give people the confidence to vote again – to know that their vote counts. Let’s move forward with dignity and positive change.”
Wong joins a growing slate of highly-qualified B.C. Green candidates running throughout the province.
“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome David to our team for the upcoming election,” said B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver. “David is an accomplished architect and a tireless advocate for his community in East Vancouver. He is intimately familiar with the struggles that people in cities across our province face as a result of the B.C. government’s inaction on housing affordability. We are incredibly fortunate to have him on our team and I am ecstatic that he’ll be running in Vancouver-Hastings.”
