"I feel lucky to live in a place surrounded by beautiful spaces, and I want to work tirelessly to protect them for Burnaby East residents." As a lawyer and advocate, Agnes works with people from all walks of life to help them navigate the complexities of the legal system. She is at her best advancing humanitarian and compassionate cases for those who may be disadvantaged by barriers such as language, level of education, ethnicity, gender, and mental health and/or addictions. Agnes has volunteered for a variety of organizations including the Elizabeth Fry Society, Access Pro Bono Society of BC, Correctional Service of Canada, Writers' Exchange (after school literacy mentor), and the Richmond Therapeutic Riding Association among others. Agnes is an effective communicator, a never-give-up type of solutions finder, and a people-oriented person. If selected as the Candidate for Burnaby East, Agnes will boldly and tirelessly work to make sure that the people of Burnaby East have a strong voice in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. |

"Whether at the local or provincial level, my greatest joy and honour has been to serve and support my community." Tara is a passionate advocate for environmental and social justice. She has a diverse background in activism and community service. She was involved in significant social and environmental movements during her college years, including the "Chipko" movement. Upon migrating to Canada in 2002, Tara continued her advocacy, becoming involved in numerous projects focused on environmental sustainability and social justice. She was involved with the anti-Tmx movement and is a strong proponent of Indigenous rights. Through her board position at Force of Nature and in collaboration with many environmental organizations, she advocated for a Climate Emergency Plan adopted by the City of Burnaby in 2019. With the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition, she played a pivotal role in the All on Board transit campaign. In 2023, she became a Climate Action Fellow with the Urban Resilient Futures Initiative, focusing on climate solutions in Burnaby. Tara is also a key participant in the Frack Free movement and continues to advocate for her community through the West Coast Climate Action Network. Tara's dedication to environmental and social causes, along with her focus on participatory democracy through Fair Vote Canada, makes her a valuable asset to her community. Her work in promoting sustainable practices and advocating for equitable policies demonstrates her commitment to creating a more just and sustainable future for all. |
To vote for your preferred candidate, you must live in Burnaby East (BNE) and your BC Greens membership must be in good standing as of August 20th, 2024 at 9pm. Voting will take place online from August 21st to August 27th.
