VICTORIA, B.C. – Government announced today that BC’s first innovation commissioner has completed his term, and the BC Greens applaud Dr. Alan Winter’s advocacy for a more competitive and modern economy for the province.
“I want to thank Dr. Winter for his tireless advocacy for the importance of innovation in shaping a strong and prosperous future for our province,” said BC Green Party interim leader Adam Olsen, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands. “We have been well-served by Dr. Winter as this province’s first innovation commissioner.
“Across every sector of our economy, ranging from forestry to healthcare, resource development to agriculture, innovation is the driving force, opening new opportunities for sustainable prosperity.”
The BC Greens proposed an innovation commissioner in the 2017 election platform as one part of a strategic approach to harnessing the economic opportunities in the new economy. Establishing an innovation commissioner formed part of the Confidence and Supply Agreement with the BC NDP.
“Dr. Winter has provided important advice about the future of our economy that we cannot ignore. If government is serious about building a truly sustainable and resilient economy, it must put support for innovation at the core of its economic vision. We cannot afford to forego the economic opportunities that innovation presents.”
